What do you think of those pre-AR dinks.
Thanks for showng that AR's are improving the bucks.

This list goes back 89 years with the average year for a non AR buck being 59 years ago. None of the top 10 came after 1974. Before AR's our best bucks had definitely gone downhill. There is one lone entry from the 90's Only three from the 80's and three from the 70's and zero from the 60's. From the 50's on back the quality was better but guess what? we had far less deer then!

It looks like our buck quality had definitely bottomed out before AR's. The next time this list gets published it will be interesting indeed

I don’t know what point you were trying to make by posting those best rifle harvest buck scores but you probably missed your target.

I have take the liberty of breaking them down to time periods and then averaged the number of inches per buck for each time period. Here is the data for the 39 bucks that had a known year of harvest.

Time period………………….number of entries……………………..average inches of antler
Prior to 1931.……………………….4.…………… ………………...........173.2
1931-1940.………………………….7.………… …………………...........177.3
1941-1950.…………………………12.………… …………………..........172.6
1951-1960.………………………….6.………… …………………...........172.2
1961-1970.………………………….0.………… ………………….............N/A
1971-1980.………………………….3.………… …………………...........176.0
1981-1990.………………………….3.………… …………………...........167.0
1991-2000.………………………….1.………… …………………...........172.6
2001-present………………………..3.………… …………………............172.2

All of the ones since 2001 were harvested after antler restrictions. How many more do you think will be entered in that since 2001 column over the next few years?

RSB just blew you out of the water. Try again!!!

PLEASE NOTE. THE RACK SIZES OF RECORD BOOK BUCK DID NOT INCREASE after ARS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also don't know what point you are trying to get across, it seems the counties along the N.Y. border have produced a lot of records. I don't see your Elk County or my Carbon and Lehigh.

Shame on you R.S.B! How did you miss the other significant info posted by BB? It clearly shows total support for the present day deer management plan. Particularly from 1931 to 1950.I'm pretty sure our deer herd was smaller then. Ah!, less deer, more food, better quality deer. Just like today![/align]

The numbers of top end bucks were decreasing prior to AR.
How low would it have gone?
Seems like AR has returned us to a time comparable to the best big buck years.

Obviously you don't know squat about the history of our herd. The deer densities were much higher during that period than they are today.

WHOOPSIE!

The must have been dizzy from his spin machine and he went and gave us serious evidence that he's dead wrong on AR's.

Man, the dead horses are gonna be running for cover tonight

Really desperate! usingone deer for one period and a three deer average for another period to demonstrate a difference of .4 inches proves nothing either way
