Pa hunter numbers, is doomsday really here?
Just came across some intesting numbers from the NSSF regarding PA hunter numbersas compared to the other 49 states.
PA Ranks:
#2 inresident hunters
#4 for out of state hunters
#2 in $$ spent on hunting
# 1 in days afeild for all hunters
It is undeniable that license sales are down all across this nation but PA still looks fairly strong despite the claims from the USP and their ilk

Judging by the drop in hunting pressure both in archery and rifle , it will be interesting to see how much license sales drop next year. the PGC said this year sales were basically the same as last year.

I'm looing forward to legally tagging two 10 points per year in the near future.

Pa is a highly populated state that has built a strong deer hunting tradition many years ago. Doesnt matter how or where we "rank", because our "rank" is far from thanks to our current anti-deer ecoextreme deer plan. More important as to where we are headed. The trend clearly shows problems. Our numbers dropping by over double the national average during the years where our "plans" results were being realized most says it all. 2001-2006 our numbers declined over twice the national average. 4% nationally. 10% in Pa. Basically speaks for itself if you ask me.

Another problem I see with your info btb, its badly aged data on that webpage. It sites our TOTAL license sales of resident and nonresident combined as 1,044,000. Last time our sales were anywhere resembling that number was back in 2001. When we sold 1,047,820. We dropped like a rock ever since, and that number is a FAR cry from the 924,448 we sold last year. LInk to pgc license sales clearlydepicting the freefall: http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/cwp/view.asp?a=460&q=159015
and to answer your question I'll address with questions of my own. Does it HAVE to be doomsday before someone says enough unwarrented slaughter is enough? Is double the national average hunter decline not enough? Must we go 4-5 times that before warranting concern? Need we hear 1500 MORE lies and unfulfilled predictions? I dont think so. Also, I dont think pgc can do ANYTHING to thouroughly end all hunters desire to hunt. That doesnt mean things couldnt be a whole helluva lot better than they are. Id say most have had enough ofnonhunter friendly boc members getting hand picked by dcnr and crew, andcatering to ecoweiners.
