Everyones been asking the pa hunters (how the made out),theres not much to report this year. Last year the board was lit up, whats up no bucks just does!!!. This is the last week is it not?. arent. the mojority shot the first morn?? well were are they than laying in the woods. coyote food. The coyote will take over and you will lose even more deer to them, AR shot all the does, leave all the small bucks dead in the woods. sounds to me the great plan isnt working, I think they should only shoot does for atleast 2 years . 5000 dollar fine for any buck.

Wife shot a 10 point opening afternoon of rifle. Went just shy of 200#'s. One of a number of different AR legal bucks we saw during bow season but didn't quite get close enough. That was out 3rd deer for the season so no more room in the freezer, our season was done. Saw a number of tall 4 could have been more points but passed knowing the bigger bucks were in the area.(and not absolutely positive they had 3 on a side) We saw more mature animals this year then in the past 30. I think guys are shooting the first legal deer that runs by and out of the woods they go... My opinion from the tree tops this fall.

I got a nice 8-point in Sullivan County on Monday morning. I posted the picture on the deer hunting forum. It was a big bodied deer, too. I saw a few bruisers taken on our mountain, too.

Our group has done almost as good this year but we are shooting more bucks. 3 7 pointers so far, and no does. Which usually this late in the game we have 4 does and maybe one buck we just aren't seeing the does. The farm on the next plot of land took corn down much later than the farm we hunt on and they naturally the deer went to where the food was and so we aren't seeing as many on the land we hunt. that is all just part of how it goes some years.

Hardly anybody's talking cause hardly anybody's complaining. The competition is gone to shoot everything with horns, heard lots of shooting, more than last year, but only heard one volley in four days so the woods felt far safer, only came across one wounded deer where I usually find several. Seems the GC found a way to get the herd in balance, increase the percentage of bigger bucks, and make folks identify their target better before pulling the trigger. Gotta guess it's the anti-PGC folks making up tales when I hear internet stories about all the dead deer left laying cause everybody I know says they've seen fewer too.
Only going to get better next year now that the GC finally struck a deal with the legislature who insisted we needed to keep subsidizing the county treasurers for doe licenses so we can start dividing the state into DMU's. If there's anything left to gripe about, it should be the $1 Million of our license fees that will keep going to the county treasurers even though they are no longer needed for processing doe licenses. Sounds like a bureacratic dream and a waste of money to me. Everybody sends their application to the PGC, they sort em by DMU, then send em out to the treasurers to issue, just so the county treasurers can make a dollar on each one. No doubt the anti-PGC guys that were wrongly blaming the PGC for DMU's being held up will dream up something new to complain about but that's us PA hunters. We'd complain if you gave us a new pair of boots cause they weren't broke in yet.

i must agree that the stories of wounded/dead illegals everywhere are made up or you hunt with nuts everywhere...i walk 2 mile into my spot..frist day walking out seen none wounded and tracks all over the trail both human and deer running wild..none of the deer tracks had blood in them meaning none were wounded...on the way home i seen a doe laying in a road gutter that was wounded and guys were tracking it over the hill i could see them coming so we kept driving...on the way home she was gone just as i expected..it was theres...first saturday..back to the state game lands where we were the first day...no blood on the trail except drag marks(which were few and far between we felt odd dragging 3 out the first day!) and none after 9 or so saturday when we were dragging dads doe out...and no blood from wounded deer...i think their plan is working in a way..i didnt hear nearly as many rapid fire volleys...usually one single shot...i did hear one guy going nuts saturday...atleast 6 shots fierd within 3 secs!

The first day this year is one I will always remember. I took my 10 year old son with me for his first time deer hunting. We started on Thanksgiving morning when we went up on the mountain to get the stand ready we were going to use by hanging mesh netting up around it and putting a bench seat in to sit on. Monday morning was pretty cold but we were pretty well prepared with hand warmers, foot warmers and body warmers as well as boot blankets for him and I really had to hand it to him, he toughed it out when lots of my buddies were back at their trucks. We sat all day seeing 30+ deer and 4 bucks only the last of which was legal, at ten minutes till 4 in the afternoon. He was chasing a doe down off of the top of the mountain and stopped directly in front of our stand at 15 YARDS! He is a pretty nice 5 point about 12" wide, not nearly as big as a lot I've gotten but a very special one nonetheless. He loved every aspect of the day and even took the antlers to school for show and tell the next day. One more PA hunter will be in the woods in a few years.

Congrats PINMASTER,You just described the true meaning of a trophy. It's not the # of points or the spread, but the hunt itself.Sounds like you had a great day.Congrats again.
