Default Maryland deer and sika deer hunting ?

Hello MD hunters... I will be hunting Wicomico and Dorchester counties. I checked Fishing Bay out for sika deer. Is there any woods there or do you just hunt the marshes? The public land in these 2 counties is it any good?
thanks

I unfortunately couldn't tell you, but I do want to go hunting for Sitka deer on the Eastern Shore this fall, too.

well.... if you want sika, your gonna be hunting in marsh. there are woods but... they thrive in marshlands. the chesapeake lands in dorchester are your best bet to get one but.. alot of people hunt them and your gonna need hip waders to hunt them, especially if it rained. i would say to just try and avoid the weekendson any public land

Bull Moose, there are some good areas in Fishing Bay WMA. You will be best off finding someplace where the woods meets the marsh, the sikas like the protection of the tall grass. Fishing bay can be tough to hunt due to the ammount of it that is water or open marsh... I would also look into the chesapeake forest public hunting lands, not much pressure and lots of deer plus easier hunting, and the other option is to get a permit to hunt the Blackwater Wildlife refuge, cost 10 - 20 dollares for a permit (depending on weapon choice) but lots of deer, and easier hunting. Here are links to both, hope this helps:

If ya want a sika deer ya gonna have to stay wet. They love the marsh and any thick cover near it.

You can also check out Assateague Island National Seashore in MD. Their website has info on public hunting for Sika. I've hunted on the VA part of the island, but that is draw only. The MD part is first come-first served.

I've always had the best luck doing just that. Don't seem to get as much action in open marsh. My best stands have always right on the treeline to 100yds in .
