another evening of excitement. the deer are active, but i didnt see anything of any size. had a buck raise up and cause the birds in the area he was in to draw my attention. i grunted and he moved in my direction..when i first saw him, he was all EARS
he headed towards me ad then cut off. he made his way to a small hedge-row. this was right next to a busy road
i will scout in the morning..i am waiting and waiting for a monster to show. that never happend
the deer in the swamps r here 2day, there the next.
hey, i missed that deer for reasons not associated with distance...as i stated...that was my first miss ///ever. i have never lost one either. i think that is a pretty good record. if i shoot one at 25yds i will keep it to myself at your request...u will be able to read about it in buckmaster...joking
have a good hunt monday...i will be out there too. i read rain, but now i am not seeing it. whatever

Hunted all day yesterday (11/9)Public land. Saw a Spike around 7am. Grunted a couple times and he came trotting over but before he got within my bow range, he saw me. Didnt bolt away, but wouldnt come any closer. Didnt see another deer all day. Tons of good rubs in the area, but no scrapes at all. Im sure there are a couple good bucks in the area but probably not many. The heat didnt help either. The Mosquitos were alwful. I'll be out there again Wed, one more chance before gun season. Good luck to all.

lemond, That is a good record! It could, however, be skewed by limited data. If you have killed one deer and missed the other, that's only 50%...good in baseball and horse races, but not much else! If you've killed 100 deer and only missed one...well now that's pretty good!!! My point was the deer moved on the miss you described. At long distances, that is always a possibility. The longer the range, movement on the deer's part could end in disasterous results!
duckmastor, looks like the weather Wednesday will be alot better than tomorrow! Long range looks like Friday and Saturday will be nice and cold as well!!! Should be great for all you gun hunters!!! I'll be hunting but I'm heading to Maryland!!!

i might still get out with my bow during the shot season..but i will be in a secluded area...those guys r nuts. there usually arent many n the area that i am n. i think the hunting in the area here is not what it used to be in terms of the number of people.
enough about my miss..that will happen again i am sure..but i am an ok shot
. scouted today and found a spot at the back of a corn field..i ma n it n the morning...will everyone hunt during the rain>???

I'll gun hunt in the rain, but not with the bow. I can drop a deer cold with double 00 Buck but god forbid i'm just a tad off with the bow and have no blood trail. Just not worth the risk as far as i'm concerned. Just my opinion.
I think deer activity is just as good if not better on a wet day though. As long as its not a terrential downpour. Misty cold raw days really get the deer moving from my experiance.
I'll take the 12 ga out for DE Shotgun until I get one, if I get one. Need some meat in the freezer. After that, i'll take the bow. Not going give up although it will get alot tougher after 11/15. I'll be praying for really cold snowy weather after that. If it doesnt turn real cold in Dec or Jan, i'll be doing alot more duck and goose hunting....
I'll post again after Wed's hunt. Good Luck everyone!

Well, remember we were talking about Nov 9th?
Had about 5 does bed around me after first light, and 1/2 hour later a small 6 or 8 came in and started chasing, then a small 4 or 5 after that. The bigger buck knocked the 1.5yr old around a little, then went back after the does. The little guy stuck around, so a little while later he got the whuppin' of his life. The bigger buck had him turned over twice goring his belly, looked pretty painful. Every time I grunted or bleated the does all came running, but the thicket ended right in front of me, so they would look into the opening, and turn back into the thicket looking for the noise. I must have had the deer respond 10 different times, but the bigger buck never offered a shot. I passed on the little one, as well as a spike that came in behind me out of nowhere.
Finally the does scrambled out of there about 8:00. About 8:30, two more bucks came cruising through, first a small basket 8pt, then a nice buck right behind him. Hit him right behind the last rib, lodged in the off shoulder at 25yds. He only went 40yds. I had to wait for the small 8pt to leave, he never heard me shoot, and stayed for 45 minutes rubbing and sniffing the doe beds. Pretty cool morning, saw two fights, one serious, about 5 trees rubbed, 2 scrapes made, and heard about 20 different grunts.
He was a 3.5yr old 7pt, 18" spread, real massive rack, my best bow buck ever. It was actually in MD, but there's no MD thread, hope you don't mind if I stretch this into an "Eastern Shore" thread.
I'll be out Friday and Sat in DE, bow in hand.

It's 3, but who's counting? <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
Good thing is I still have my quality buck tag for DE. Plus while I have to shoot two does in MD before getting another buck tag, there's two white ones on one of our properties, which should be fun to hunt.
I still think the best hunting is ahead of us, this coming weekend should be great if you believe the weatherman this far out.... <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
