RE: Mountain Lions Are Absolutely in PA (photo Added)
Contrary to what is being said, Female cougars will have the bellies that do hang down. I have heard the stories for years about cougars in NY, as I grew up hunting there. I have lived in Idaho since 1989 and have had the opportunity of hunting some of the largest cats in the 48. that picture sure does not appear to be a cougar to me. Whether they exist or not is another thing, but I would not say that is definately a cougar. It appears to have dished out cheeks evident by the shadows and the ears appear to be pointy. Also the rear end looks a little toojacked up the be a cougar. I have heard cases of lynx and bobcats breeding successfully. Could be a possibility. It amazes me that every pic that I see that is argued to be a cougar or not, includes the phrase about the tail not being seen because it is on the other side of the cat. How can these cougars hide a tail like that every time. When cougars run they will swing their tail to keep balance. This animal appears to be at rest. His tail would be out behind it. Beleive me, I have seen enough cougars in the wild, and the tail is always seen, unless they are head on and stalking you, like I have had happen on several occasions while elk hunting.

ORIGINAL: Sylvan Hey, how about this... Even if the photo clearly and unmistakably showed a cougar. What in the photo would prove the picture was taken in P.A? There are no landmarks or anything to connect thepic to pa other than a claim. I've seen dozens of cougar pictures that were claimed to be taken in NY that turned out to be nothing more than a cougar pic taken in Colorado or some other western state. The famous hoax here was the one where the cougar was following a deer but the hoaxers were too dumb to realize the deer in the pic was a mule deer. We don't have many of those here in NY. |

The eastern cougar is still present in Maine, acording to the dept of Interior, US Fish and Wildlife.
Two years ago the position of Illinois was no cougars lived there, this has changed since one was killed by a train and the other by a hunter. There rational for cougars not being there is they could not cross the Miss River, the lightbulb went on when the train killed the cougar, train briges. As for the picture, the tail would not be in the picture, Mountain Lions use the tail for balance. Anyone who has hunted in the west and seen many mountain lions will tell you the tail would be faced lowuphill. Is it a mountain lion, I have no idea. Is it in Pa I have no idea. Are there mountain lions in Pa, don't know. Seen themin Md though, if it ever decides to chew on me, my kids, or my dog I'll show you a picture of a dead cat, if it decides to chew on my wife well I might get a shot off with the camera for insurance purposes. |

Since MD borders PA, is it possible that one could migrate into PA.
Naw. couldn't happen. We obviously patrol our borders against the influx of them according to some people. |

Pretty good logic there. So you won't beleive a picture unless the cougar poses in front of a landmark. |
