The Wisconsin Sturgeon Spearing on Lake Winnebago closed as of 12:30 this afternoon after the quota for female fish was taken. The season was only open for 2 days and ideal conditions allowed for a record opening day harvest.
Personally, I speared a 54.5", 40 lb. female that had a DNR tag in its fin. Kind of like shooting a tagged duck
.
The new record for Lake Winnebago was taken Saturday with 77", 188lb fish speared on the southwest side of the lake.
It was a real slaughterhouse out there this season. I took my fish in at 1:00 saturday afternoon and waited in line untill 3:30 to register it.
I will post a pic of the fish as soon as it is developed!

I was spearing on the S.W. part of the lake and only saw one walleye, a few perch, TONS of shad and the Sturgeon we speared. As far as walleyes, there is a decent 'eye bite right now about 2.5 miles out of Oshkosh between Ceape street and Garlic Island. Talked to a friend this afternoon who has been having luck toward evening on tip-ups and jigging w/ #3 rapalas and chartreuse swedish pimples...should be a good weekend to try 'Bago

Sounds like it would be fun. Just lent my son all my rite lites and walleye rigs last night tho. I'm sneeking off to the cranberry bogs by Toma in the morn. Hanging smelt on sweedish hooks for Northerns.
