Illinois Bill That Bans Shotguns Passes Senate Committee- (03/21)

Legislation has advanced in Illinois that will ban shotguns. Sportsmen in the state must take action now to stop the bill.

Senate Bill 1195, sponsored by Senator Antonio Munoz (D-Chicago), bans any shotgun that has a bore of 50 caliber or more. It outlaws 10, 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge shotguns and even muzzleloaders. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of six to four. It now awaits a vote on the Senate floor.

Even if that clause imposing bore restrictions is fixed, the bill bans any shotgun that has threads inside the end of the barrel. That means any shotgun that has choke tubes would be illegal. The bill also bans shotguns with a magazine capacity of more than four shells.

Illinois citizens would have 90 days to turn in their guns to authorities or face prosecution as felons. Sportsmen who hunt turkeys, deer, pheasants and other game would be criminals under SB 1195.

Breaking News On Illinois Senate Bill 1195!

An amendment has been proposed that would remove all language from Senate Bill 1195 except for its title. The amendment would allow Senator Munoz time to gather support from legislators and develop new language banning shotguns. The new provisions could be inserted in the bill and passed with little or no warning, threatening sportsmen and hunting in Illinois.

Take Action! Illinois sportsmen should not let Senator Munoz sneak a bill through the legislature that would threaten their right to carry a shotgun. Sportsmen must contact their senators today and tell them to oppose the attempt to criminalize hunters. Tell him to vote NO on Senate Bill 1195. Find your legislator at (217) 782-8223 or use the Legislative Action Center at www.ussportsmen.org.

" Senate Bill 1195, sponsored by Senator Antonio Munoz (D-Chicago), bans any shotgun that has a bore of 50 caliber or more. It outlaws 10, 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge shotguns and even muzzleloaders."
ONLY those shotguns which are semi-autos capable of holding MORE THAN 5 rounds. Furthermore, muzzleloaders are specifically excluded from the bill.

" ...the bill bans any shotgun that has threads inside the end of the barrel. That means any shotgun that has choke tubes would be illegal."
Please see above. No shotgun is specifically included in this bill due to choke tube threads.

" The bill also bans shotguns with a magazine capacity of more than four shells."
No...more than FIVE shells, and only if it' s a semi-auto.

" Sportsmen who hunt turkeys, deer, pheasants and other game would be criminals under SB 1195."
ONLY if they hunted them with semi-auto shotguns that had magazines capable of holding more than five shells.

Mike, like I said on the other thread...I do not support this bill in any way, shape, or form. However, it really grates on my nerves to see different " sportsmans groups" blatantly lieing out their rear ends about it.

When they resort to being a bunch of liars, it makes us all look just as bad.

Here' s a link to the bill itself...

http://www.legis.state.il.us/legisla...SB&DocNum=1195

Here' s the part that defines an " assault weapon" as pertaining to shotguns...

" (1) " Semi-automatic assault weapon" means:
(D) a semiautomatic shotgun that has any of the following:
(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;
(iii) a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 5 rounds; or
(iv) an ability to accept a detachable magazine.
This is a FAR cry from saying that all shotguns with a bore over 50 cal or have threads for choke tubes are included.

JRW,

I feel and hear what your saying. Spin is in both sides of the debate. Look at the campaign reform crap. Unfortunetly gun owners seem to always come out on the short end!

There is no point to banning those guns. Sporstmen in IL will be throwing rocks at game before long. Have you heard about the bill raising the f.o.i.d. card fee up to 500 dollars a year. All this crap is a bunch of B.S. IL sucks I' m moving!!
