Illinois Bill That Bans Shotguns Passes Senate Committee- (03/21)

Legislation has advanced in Illinois that will ban shotguns. Sportsmen in the state must take action now to stop the bill.


Senate Bill 1195, sponsored by Senator Antonio Munoz (D-Chicago), bans any shotgun that has a bore of 50 caliber or more. It outlaws 10, 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge shotguns and even muzzleloaders. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of six to four. It now awaits a vote on the Senate floor.


Even if that clause imposing bore restrictions is fixed, the bill bans any shotgun that has threads inside the end of the barrel. That means any shotgun that has choke tubes would be illegal. The bill also bans shotguns with a magazine capacity of more than four shells.


Illinois citizens would have 90 days to turn in their guns to authorities or face prosecution as felons. Sportsmen who hunt turkeys, deer, pheasants and other game would be criminals under SB 1195.


Breaking News On Illinois Senate Bill 1195!


An amendment has been proposed that would remove all language from Senate Bill 1195 except for its title. The amendment would allow Senator Munoz time to gather support from legislators and develop new language banning shotguns. The new provisions could be inserted in the bill and passed with little or no warning, threatening sportsmen and hunting in Illinois.


Take Action! Illinois sportsmen should not let Senator Munoz sneak a bill through the legislature that would threaten their right to carry a shotgun.
