Its official: WI to have 4 day Oct. Antlerless hunt

Don't count on getting the DNR to see common sense. For years they fought tooth and nail against the idea of giving out free doe tags with a license in order to encourage the shooting of antlerless deer. Took them years. So if you start pushing for another muzzleloader season now, who knows...by 2020 you might see some results.

Ohh it irritates the hell out of us. Im glad not too many people in my area get involved with the Oct hunts when they do have it in my area.

I do not believe that our DNR is bright enough to think of something like that. Instead they come up with an October hunt that is thinly attended and irritates bowhunters.
has wisconsin ever thought about maybe having an early muzzleloader season in september!

I hunt in Michigan and just love it. Bucks only. In Wisconsin in the Coleman area it is brown and down. Amazing.

I think the motto there is, "If it has antlers and its brown, its down!" Last year I must have seen 30 deer and only 4 with antlers, well after I was done hunting there were only three left.
Was Wondering if this season was necessary again this year? I thought it might have been a tough winter up there and would have knocked down the deer population a little. I hunted Wisconsin once a few years back (Waushara Co.) saw only a few deer but heard the usually "Opening day" symphony of shots. The only thing I was thinking is with the Herd being so high (Or so they say) the winter plus the early antlerless season might be the 1,2 punch they are looking for to knock the population down.
Quick side not, I know it's only May, but Im looking into doing some gun hunting for deer come November. My spot in Waushara Co. was turned into houses [:@][:@]and I love hunting Wisconsin. Public land is my least favorite way to go, but heck, it's better than sitting at home during hunting season. Was wondering if anybody new anythingabout Devil's lake State park in Baraboo. My uncle has acondo he uses for skiing Devil'sHeadthat backs up to the park. Done a lot of research on it but can't find harvest reports, amount of hunters and how the the CWD has affected that area. On the DNR website it says the deer density is still high in that area, but I don't believe that can be trusted. Any help would be appreciated and hey, if anyone needs another responsible hunter to add to their camp, don't be afraid to let me know. 6 months and change until opening day!!!
