I have a hunt planned for Oct. 15 to the 20th in Guernsey Co. My question to you is what type of activity should I expect that time of year. Have nothing to do but hunt that week, so was planning on some all day sits. Is most of the activity this time of year still reserved for the mornings and evenings?

It may still be warm, and daytime activity could be limited. Most activity will be centered around food (as always) and some acorns will be dropping by then. Mature bucks can be tough to find. Many have very predictable patterns, but those patterns sometimes have them moving at night. It’s a very pleasant time to be in the woods, but the lack of mature deer sightings can be a bit frustrating.

I've hunted Guernsey for the last 4 years so based on my experience I'd say you'll see deer late in the evening and early in the morning near food sources, or just inside field edges. There will be little rut activity if any taking place at that time. The earliest I've shot a deer down there was October 31st and he was dogging a doe. But the rut action will take place more likely between the 7th and 15th of November.

Enjoy it though, it's beautiful country packed full of whitetails. I'd be shocked if you didn't see some.

That time of the year I will still be hunting the food sources. Clover, acorns, and corn. If you have time when you first get there, you might want to scout a little for some early pre-rut rub lines and scrapes. Setting up between bedding and feeding areas would be great start.
