A cat in a foothold means you are not adjusting the pan tention,or you caught a huge cat.If you want to release him,it will take some time but you can do it safely. Its not against the law here to shoot a ferrel cat,but your chances of catching him again in that kind of setup are slim.So thats not a worry,I let housecats go all the time.Ive even let Bobcats go,That is SPOOKEY,but it can be done.

Well ill tell u this true hound hunters would get rid of their bad dogs because its a waste of dog food. Why keep bad dogs on a property when you can have good hunters where its worth it. And cats i will agree that for farmers they arent bad. I used to be a farmer until milk prices dropped hard. But there has to be a line where we can get rid of cats. So if you have a cat in a foot hold what are you going to do, legally you cant kill it but it will bite u if u try.

Simply put (but being ignored) is the simple fact that many, many more deer are killed each year by vehicles than wolves.

And each and every year, more deer are killed by vehicles than the previous year, especially in states such as WI & MI.

It's a balance of nature and any balance of nature can be quite sensitive. Somehow mother nature finds ways to work things out.

The deer are not ours, they are hers. We are not entitled to them. The wolves have more right to them than we do.

But we must work within the laws laid out by "us"and for us. So here's where I point out forum rules #4 and #6 to cowboy.

Also, a 100 lb coyote?! There are rather distinct physical differencesbetweenyotes& wolves.

Amen. Its amazing that in these wolf threads a large percentage of the people are advocating breaking the law. Most give suggestions on how to break the law and not how to change the law. It seems that so many are passionate about the issue, but are not helping or finding ways to get the laws changed.

Its makes us looks just as bad as them.

Ive got some food for thaught.Wolves in wisconsin are protected. You cant own one, unless its a hybred...After talking the matter over with some folks who deal with them more than i do.It finally made sence to me that the gap in our oppinions isnt so bad.what im seeing arround here is probbobly wolf hybreds. That would explain the boldness that wolves are NOT known for.You realy cant tell by looking at a picture of them.It can only be determined by DNA. But on the trail,Its actions should give it away im told.Well,it turns out i cant shoot a dog running loose on my property either,a cat yes,but not a dog.Makes sence,i dont want to shoot someones buddy.Only a game warden can do that.
Now its time for everyone to do there part. The DNR has people to find wolves. They also have people(voluntiers) who do nothing but follow a certain wolf all winter. When one person stops another picks up the trail and continues.Thats one way they know what they kill, etc. There are not enough people to record all the activity in the state,so they rely on active hunters to report findings in the field.Mabe there are wolves in an area that they didnt know about.Get on the WIDNR web and let them know you need some post cards to report evidence of threatened or endangered animals in the field. The DNR is not your enemy, and they need your help.Everyone will benefit from it,including you.

Hey furgitter, we agree on something![8D]

Except the part about the hybrids. I don't buy the notion that dogs are breeding with wild wolves. Every experience I havehad with wolves leads me to believe that they will kill any dog theysee. They are only becoming more brave because there is more human activity and they are becoming acustomed to people.

The wolves were here first and I think it is a credit to our generation that they are back. Of course their will be problems and dead deer.. they're a predator. But they will not destroy the population of deer. The wolf, like the bear, can only exist where their is a 'balance' in nature. I only wish I could hunt in such a place.

Dont say that so loud Dan, I never agree with anyone.LOL.
I know what youre talking about when you say they kill all the dogs they find. And they do kill alot. But,It happens enough that there are hybred wolves. The same goes for coyotes. They will kill and eat BIG dogs out west,But they also breed with the domestics and have for 20 years that i know of.Those coyotes are commonly known as COYDOGS.Im not trying to pull a prank on ya.Its real. The Mexican red wolf also breeds with coyotes often enough that,im not sure there are any reds left any more. They all look like big giant coyotes with funny tracks.

I live 5 miles from the benson lake clan out of crivitz Wi.Wolves have absolutly crushed the local deer population .I bow hunted 4 days a week average this year all 9 days of the gun season and 7 days a week from dec 15th to the end of the season .I saw exactly 11 deer all year.I have not seen a deer on the road up here at night for over 6 months.I have seen 5 wolves,16 bears, and lots of coyotes. You cannot have all these preditors and expect that deer mortality is not going to be extreemly high.So what did our dnr do to help .They opened the area up with 3500+ doe permits.Anybody else sick and tired of this .Its getting worse every year but this year takes the cake
