Default Setting up a tree stand for Northern IL

With this first of hunting I am learning a lot, and I know I have to be down wind when doing deer. I am trying to figure out in the end of November and start of December what direction does the wind normaly blow. With the road being west of me I need to be shooting in aeast direction. So I am trying to figure out how to setup my stand for this.

Thanks

Neal, the wond always has a way of changing around, doesn't it? Think about sitting around a campfire. No matter where you sit, eventually the smoke blows in your face, right?

So, I will strongly recommend that you set up atleast 2 stands/blinds so that they are situated that if the wind changes around you will have an alternate stand to keep your face in the wind. In placing them you have to keep in mind your approach and departure routes to each.

Maybe we'll hook up some time? You're not too far from me.

Good point. As soon as we get some cooler weather to kill off some of the lower plant life I will be checking the trails for directions of the paths.

Now this has me thinking to get the stands setup soon though so thateven it is notseason I can get up in the stands and just watch. Fror me I do not have many spots for a ground blind that I can see but I will checkfor that too. I never realy thoughtofusing one till this year.

If you ever want to shoot up by me me that sounds good. With being new to huntinginthe manner of doing it for myself and just not helping out some of our hunters talking with guys that hunt has beena great help to me in learning. I am 25 but withhaving to learn so much and with looking sofoward to thisseason I feellike I am a little kid again.I have to say it feels weird.

Thanks again,

The preseason excitement is part of the hunting experience. When I stop feeling like a kid I may stop all together. Make sure you eliminate as much odor as possible from your person. Then even if the wind changes you may get a deer which just stops walking instead of bolting away.

When I was "doing deer" they never really cared about the wind!!!
