Default CLINTON LAKE

Snuffy and I took to the water this afternoon Saturday 10/20. The wind was terriable. We put in ran across the lake to the lee side of the wind. Snuffy wacked the first fish he seen almost as soon as i dropped the trolling moter. We finally got only 11 fish as we ran out of coves to get out of the wind. We had white caps and I think the waves had 2 foot trough's. We both got quite a bath getting back to the ramp. was loaded up by by 4.

Forgot to mention for anyone not in the know like Snuffy and I were. Do not put in at the Parnell ramp this time of the year. The bridge at Rt 48 below Parnell is blocked off and you cannot get to the lower lake. We were going to try and get on the other Side of the bridge to get out of the wind and found out that we could not. According to Kendall this time of the year that section is for water fowlers.

Good shooting guys. Looks like you found a little bit of shoreline outta the wind.

This is taken from their website.
"The entire portion of the lake between the DeWitt County Highway 14 Bridge and the Illinois Route 48 Bridge is designated as a fish and waterfowl refuge and is closed to all public use for the period of October 10th. Through March 31. The land portions of the site in this designated area will still be open for authorized hunting activities (except waterfowl) during this time period."
So be aware of this if you go to Clinton Lake.

Nice pile of fish.

Nice.
That's what I should have done today.
Spent all day in the deer woods instead, and didn't even see one.
It was so windy I had to use the chin strap on my hat to keep it from blowing away.

KBI, I should have done some still-hunting to try to find some bedded deer since the wind would cover my footstep sounds, but I hate to do that on public land and risk messing up somebody else's hunt.

Still, bowfishing would have been more productive, and a whole lot less work. I guess Snuffy and Johnny figured that one out already.

Oh and if you decide to put in at the Hgwy 48 ramp, don't back too far down as the water is so low, (it probably has come up now) that it's easy to drop your tires right off the back of the submerged ramp in order to get the boat off. I know this from experience, I had to get in the water, over waist deep and lift the trailer while Dave slowly moved up the ramp so I could get my trailer back up on the ramp. Thank goodness it's a hot water discharge lake and Uncle Dave had some extra clothes in the trunk.

Robow, I know just exactly what you mean. I had that happen to me on the Mississippi last year. I had to keep backing up and turning to get the trailer on an angle so one tire would try to come up. I Still had to put the bronco in 4x4 and really hit it hard, bent the trailer brackets that bolt the frame to the axle. Thanks for sharing

Uncle Dave and I went out to North fork last night. The fish were kinda scarce. Still we managed to get 12 carp and 1 sucker into the boat. No pictures but Dave had one that was about 10lbs.
