Cold morning pays off.

Took the Green Bobber fora cruise this morning at DPCA.
The air was18 degrees when I left the house, and the water was only 45.
The fish noticed too. I didn't see a single one that was in less than 4 feet of water. Saw 4 total, scored on 2 commons (8# and 7#)and1 shad on the fly(I was bored). The carp were hanging in holes near submerged structure and sitting tight. This wonderfullybright sunshine was their downfall. Just enough to make them out.
My slide froze to my arrow a few times, and I found out the retriever gets kinda tough to crank once the line gets crunchy with ice.
Also, the GB has been upgraded with a lighter platform. Now I can actually put the troller on high without getting water over the bow.

Thanks for helping with the pics.
Too bad. Theseicy mudsuckersare going to a garden club I just teamed up with. Free delivery since it'son myway to work. I'll save you the next ones though.
Met another guy while I was out there who used to bowfish and still has his retriever at home somewhere. He saw the fish and wants to try it again now that he knows there are a bunch of us who have spots to go. We exchanged numbers, and we'll get together soon to go out onthe main Kankakee River in his boat. He said Satmornings are good.
At least the water is cold enough that the carp should be tasty.

You guys might be trouble down at Rend.
I did figure out a new trick for taking deep fish though.
When I can, I'm taking quartering and straight-on shots more than broadside ones. Better margin for error on the depth estimate...and all bowfishermen could usea helpingof that. Whatever works.

This little guy greeted me that morning. He's a Tree Swallow.
The bright blue-green iridescence was quite striking in the morning sun.
Almost as pretty as a stuck carp.
