Default Bad experience with an outfitter

I just returned from a spring black bear hunt in Canada. Needless to say, the outfitter whom I hunted with was terrible!

http://www.kingbucksafaris.com/

He never checked the bait site, and did not put out bait while I was there. (I'm guessing, he never put out bait prior to my arrival either.) The hunt cost me $1,900.00 US Dollars. I hunt with a group of 6 guys, who will not return to this place ever again. Anyhow, it was a lesson learned, and we still laughed and made the best of it. The accommodations were bad as well. We can take the bad food, bad sleeping conditions, and having an unfriendly outfitter if the hunting is good, but it wasn't. I would never reccomend this place to anyone. Can anyone reccomend a good outfitter for a spring black bear hunt. (bowhunt)

Go to www.huntinfo.com and post your experience so that others will know it may also give you an idea of where to go.

I have been going to Maine for 3 years with the same folks it is a fall hunt $600 less than what you spent and I have been successful every time I can give you a contact if interested.

Sorry you had to go through that experience. I was filming for a Hunting Show at King Buck a couple of years ago and had a similar experience. The outfitter and his staff were very rude and did not have time for us at all. The meals were poor and the sleeping arrangements were steel framed beds with worn out mattresses. The only saving grace is that there were a bunch of big deer there. They actually cooked us up some Moose fajitas on the American Thanksgiving. It was as tough as shoe leather and the staff got a big kick out of treating the Americans like that. I was able to take a nice buck, but if I go back to Canada, I will pick more wisely.

You can check me out on the King Buck website in the "Legends of 2003" What a joke.

I am not sure about Manitoba's rules, but in Alberta, we are governed by APOS (Alberta Professional Outfitters Society), and in Alberta if you have a bad experience with an outfitter, you can take him in front of the discipline committee, and get retribution, you might want to find out what is available to you in Manitoba.
here is the web site to the Manitoba lodge and outfitters association, and a contact number to call to ask about getting your money back, or at least part of it.

Here is a hunting summary we have on file from 1999from another hunter for King Buck Safaris. So there's always two sides to every story.

Location: Saskatchewan, Canada
Species Hunted: Black Bear
Quality of Game Sighted: Good
Quantity of Game Sighted: Excellent
Quality of Accommodations: Excellent
Condition of Camp Equipment: Good
Quality of Food: Excellent
Experience of Guides: Excellent
Experience of Other Personnel: Excellent
Overall Impression of the Hunt: Excellent
Would you recommend this outfitter: Absolutely
Comments:
First time hunting with King Buck Safaris, saw bears every evening. All color phases seen except blonde. Larry runs a first class operation and works his butt off to get hunters into remote areas that hold the biggest bears. Personally saw at least two 500 lb + bears, one black, one chocolate. Did take a respectable brown on last evening of hunting.
