Honda users?

Follow up to my original post and have a question? Anybody with a newer Honda have you experienced a problem with the 4wd not getting you through? Anybody felt the need to put on Detroit Gearless Lockers? I never even considered it but on the weekend while at a different dealers I over heard a discussion that talked about how much it made a diff..some research shows this is 350US touch for the parts.
Any thoughts?
thanks!

I have never had a problem with traction with any newer honda equipped with proper tires.I haver ridden a couple of quads with the gearless lockers and although they do provide slighly better traction they are more difficult to steer and are more tiring after a long day of riding.Try to ride a machine equipped with the gearless locker before having your machine modified. In my opinion this modification is only worthwhile if you are going to do a great deal of very serious mudding.

Thanks Stubblejumper, pretty much what I thought. How do you find the GBC Gators as all arounder tire? I have been running the Kenda BC's and found them pretty good but it seems nobody is stocking them but rather GBC Dirt Devils and Gators so they are easier to find.

My favorite quad tire is the goodyear mudrunner. They seem to offer the ultimate combination of traction, ride and longlife but they are very expensive. It is for that reason that I decided to try the gators and I am quite pleased with them. They seem very close to the mudrunners as an all around tire but for much less money. The bearclaws are decent tires but they aren't as good as the gators in mud or muskeg and they do puncture more easily. The gators do measure smaller than the rated sizes but the 26x10's on the front and 26x12's on the rear do work very well. They seem to be a good balance of traction and floatation and yet they do not require too much extra power to turn.

I got stuck (first and only time) last fall with 27" Vampires on my Honda 450. Seeing one front tire spin while the other did nothing kinda made me wish I had a locker installed. However, I think a better investment would be a winch and I'll have one of those before next hunting season. The come-along did a good job of getting me out, though, but I had to walk a couple of miles back to my truck to get it.

Solitary Man, isn't it funny how winchs don't seem they are worth the expense until you need one! I personally wouldn't own a quad without a suitable winch mounted on it anymore. I not only use mine for getting me or others out of bad situations like you mentioned but also it has come in handy for hanging/loading animals. It works real slick to load large game on a flat deck trailer, you strap down the bike to the trailer and then with either ramps or by butting the trailer into a slope just winch that sucker right on and your loaded!
