Everyone has an opinion. Here is mine. I prefer the 1" wide leather military slings that you can commonly find from the big time hunting mail order catalogs. One thing to note is that the weight of a hunting rifle bearing down on that relatively narrow 1" wide sling will cause the sling to bite down into your garments and stay in place; a wider sling distributes the weight more evenly and makes it more likely the rifle sling will slide off your shoulder to the side.

I put these on 5 of my rifles....love 'em. The problem listed above isn't an issue with these.

I also use the claw sling that Canned Heat linked to on all my rifles. I think it is the best sling available.

Find a 1.25" to 1.5" nylon sling with some kine of antislip rubber on it. I think Unckle Mikes makes a utility sling like this that works and makes a good hasty sling. I really like my TIS cuff sling, but at $75, it would not be considered cheap.

The sling I use and will recommond is not cheap. But with the prices today what is? I use and swear by Slogan Ultraflex Rifle & Shotgun Sling. It's made from thermoplastic rubber and I mean non slip and comfortable. Check it out for yourself.
