dont know much about the 300 savage but caribou are considered thin skinned animals and not hard to take down. i would imagine a good premium bullet like federal nosler partitions and shot placement would do the trick.

The .300 Savage in a model 99 rifle should be fine for your Caribou hunt..
Even though the 300 savage hasn't had a technology boost it is almost balistically equivalent to a .308 and 30-06.
Using a 165gr Barnes-x or Nosler Partition will kick things up in penetration even out to 300 yrds.As long as you keep your end of the deal.

The 300 sav. has proven it self for many years and is passed up by many people but i would hunt game with it you bet,its a great cartridge. I reload mine in the 150,and 165 gr bullets. Killed deer in kansas with mine, the steaks on the plate don,t know what cal of gun killed them nor can they or do they care. vangunsmith
