Default Savage 116fxp3 in .338 Win Mag

I am posting this for my brother. He is looking at buying the Savage 116fxp3 Stainless Synthetic in 338 Win Mag. The price on this rifle up here in Canada in $640 and includes the 3-9X40 Simmons Scope and sling. Although a higher end rifle is desireable, with another baby on the way, my brother is looking to save some money. He will upgrade the scope within a year or two, but for now this sounds like a pretty good deal. Can anyone proved any comments, advice, opions, etc. on this rifle in this calibre. We were also wondering how the safety is on this rifle. Thanks.

I just purchased a 16fxp3 in 270wsm....for a lot less than 640 bucks though. The Simmons scope would be better suited on a 22 and as such I have already removed it. The safety is 3 position and located on the tang. Mine has the accu-trigger and I can honestly say it is by far better than any factory trigger I have felt. I have yet to take mine to the range but the reported accuracy with Savage rifles ranges from good to unbelieveable.

VA, he's in Canada so their 640 and our $640 USD are very different.
I do agree that the scope needs to be of much better build and quality, but at the very least it'll get you started. Check out www.savageshooters.com they also have a forum section.
