I just bought an 11F in 308, after years of planning/plotting for the ideal all-round, carry-with-me-always rifle. I "broke in" the barrel last weekend as per the Savage website recommendation. Open factory sights only. I really like it - am replacing the rear sight with a Williams receiver sight, and will be adding a limbsaver recoil pad (twenty rounds got tough - the little filly will kick your butt) But, above all, I love that Accutrigger. I am impressed with my first Savage.

The only negative I have with any of Savages offerings is the quality of their finishes, be them stainless or blued. They SUCK and will rust quickly. But with a little effort or even having them coated, you can rest assured that the gun, from a mechanical point of view, will do any job you ask of it.
I LOVE my Savage ML 10II. I plan on having it Tcoated this summer because of the aformentioned rusting tendancy, but shooting and performance wise this thing is a Ferrari with a Chevrolet price of admission. Savage is among one of the finer barrel makers in the business and if given a choice ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS go with the AccuTrigger. The system is flawless!
Good luck,
RA

I have been trying to decide what gun to go with and reading this has me still thinking. I am trying to decide between a Ruger M77 Mark II Target or a Savage 12FVSS. I can get both for about the same price. I really like the look of the Ruger but know nothing about them other than what I have heard. Which would you guys recomend given the choice?
Oh and forgot to add. The Ruger comes in 243 which is what I was leaning towards since it can sub as a deer rifle here in TN but the Savage doesnt. I will primarily use it for coyote hunting but wouldnt mind having a backup gun for deer. I could this with the 243 but not a 22-250 or 223 from the Savage in TN

If you can get both for about the same price, even though I own a Savage, I would go with the Ruger. The first deer I ever shot was with a Ruger 270 at about 250 yards. They can definitely shot and the finish is better.
