I reported on the new 25-06 Ruger last week. I took it to the range today. I had mounted my new Aetec 2.8x10x44 on it the other day. I stuck the bore sighter on it and without touching a thing, it was right on the crosshair. The first shot today was dead center and two inches low. After one adjustment I moved the target to 100 yards where it put 3 factory corlokts in 1/2 inch. I had reloaded a few 100 grain ballistic tips and it put three of them in a little smaller group yet. I had a box of Federal Premium 100 grain XLC factory shells. It grouped them into about 1 1/4 inch but 2 inches high and two inches left. I had a box of Winchester 115 grai Ballistic silvertips but the wind came up before I could try them. The wind also cut my session short before I could set up the chronograph. Maybe I will get another good day soon.
This new Aetec is so sharp and clear that I can't believe it. I have several and I don't know what more a guy could asy of a 125 dollar scope. None had ever changed point of impact in the slightest and they have all been crystal clear.

That is great!!! Yeah the Simmons Aetec is by far the best scope for the money. Good eye relief, fully multi-coated lenses, 1/4 click adjustments, you can't go wrong. I saw Natchez a while back had them for 100 bucks, promotional thing or something, I wish I picked up a couple.[:@]

I am using the Ruger bases and rings. The bases are milled in and the rings come with the rifle. The last Ruger I had needed the windage adjustable rings so I had to order them. Man was I happy with the way it shot. I want to get some some 100 grai Partitions as they will be my main hunting bullet if they shoot well in my rifle. The trigger is pretty good for a factory Ruger trigger. I will probably take it to my Gunsmith and get it tweaked a little bit. I will have to pick up a few more Aetecs as that was my last one.

I hadnt even considered an Aetec due to the fact I had some bad experiences with one of their 44 mag scopes. I ended up putting it on a 100 buck blsavckpowder gun...lol. I will have to check it out as James B. is my official equipment guide...lol.

Rugers may have the best factory barrel made in the US right now contrary to popular belief. I watched them making them on a TV show a few months back and there are operating rooms that aren't as clean. Evidently Mr Ruger was tired of the poor quality of Wilson barrels so he brought in a famous custom barrel maker . I believe his name is Bill ATkinson and had him run the barrel department. I have always had topnotch accuracy with M77's.

I'll second the Aetec as a great scope for the money. It isn't the best on the market, but it's affordable, reliable, clear and bright. I don't anything more than that for my PA whitetail hunting, so I give it two thumbs up!

This one had been sitting in the store for about a year or better and I kept watching them mark it down about twenty bucks at a time. It has the old style stock the one thats real thin at the cheek piece. They only made that stock for a few years. It has a pretty heavy barrel although not a full varmit barrel. I have two rifle tage for mule deer left for Jan. It will get its first tryout on game at that time.
