Default Marlin 336 - Remove Iron Sights

Hi All,

How do I remove the iron sights on my Marlin 336SS?

If I need to take it to a gunsmith about how much should it cost?

Thanks
Tom

Its very simple. First remove the hood on the front ramp and you will see 2 screws, remove them with a GOOD screwdriver and remove the front sight. The rear sight is a dovetail and need to be tapped out to the side. Use a piece of hard wood or plastic that is cut square, place against the metal plate that is in the dovetail and lightly tap the wood/plastic with a hammer and it should come right out. Now go to the smith and get some blind screws to fill the front sight screw holes and they also sell a blank to fill the dovetail slot. Dresses it up a bit and protects the areas in the event you return to open sights some day. Save the sights.

I just want to replace the front sight with a little higher one to use with a Williams Peep sight. I'll be darned if I can't get the sight to slide out of the groove. I used a ball peen hammer and nail punch and rapped it pretty good and couldn't get it to budge. Any ideas?

Thx,
Clattin

The front sight only has one screw. The peep appears to be slotted. Should I pop it out and find a srew under it?

Thanks for the help.
