Portage,
I've killed 15+ deer with a 30-30. The first couple I shot with Remington Corelokt 150gr soft points. Not a very good bullet IMO. I then swiched to Winchester superX 150 grain hollow points. Very devistating bullet. The bullet ALWAYS exited. Every deer ran 30-40 yrds, with a blood trail that would make you think someone was painting a red stripe through the woods with a 12" paintbrush. I've seen deer shot square in the shoulder with a 30-30 go belly up immediatly! I've never killed one with a 35 Rem, but I've witnessed a few killed with this caliber with similar results. A few ran (less than 50 yrds) and a few dropped right there.
I'm not disputing the 35 is more powerful than the 30-30, all I'm saying is who cares? They both will kill deer very effectively.

Bravo, I couldnt agree more with the last reply, basically the same point I was trying to make but you can never speak an honest opinion because there is always some biassed know it all that has to come along and disagree.

Sorry, I didn't realize that you were the final authority. I'm glad you have such a high opinion of yourself. You are correct
Seems that you only want to hear an honest opinion if it matches yours.
If forming an opinion based on actually owning and using both the 30-30 and 35 under similar circumstances for many years makes me a "biased (or to use your word biassed) know it all", so be it. I commented on MY experiences, not "he said, they tell me" BS. I never commented that YOUR or anyone else's experiences were wrong or misrepresented only that mine were different.
I also don't suscribe to the bigger is better theory. My favorite rifle is a 250-3000, hardly a powerhouse.

Me persionaly here would go with the 30-30.
i think they are very close together in porformance.
but you can find 30-30 amo here all the time but at times the 35 is hard to find.

I'd go with the 30-30. Its more easier to find shells for, it has plenty of power, and it'll kill deer just as good as a 35rem. The marlin 336 cowboy is an excellent gun for 200 dollars. thats a real bargain. Ive shot deer with the 30-06 right where you need to and it ran 15 to 20 yards. Everyone is saying that the 35 is better cause of the power. If i wanted something for power, then why not get a 50caliber bmg with incenerary rounds! I love my 30-30 for deer, and for bear, thats why i have a 30-06.
