hey all im looking into buying a .17HMR bolt action gun and i have narrowed it down to 2.
a savage 93R17-FV and a marlin 17V
which one is better and why?
i already have a scope and rings for them and oddly enuf a box of remington ammo already (given to me by dads friend that thought i had one)
so i just wanna know which one has better quality parts and which one is typically more accurate.
thanx

I have the Marlin VS and can't say enough about its accuracy. All the reports I have seen show that it has a slight edge. But from other threads I have seen those that own the savage love them also. either way they are a blast to shoot.

Hi Can Hunter I suggest that you read the gun reviews I just posted what I think there along with a bunch of others But to me its Marlin Marlin Marlin I mess with guns quite a bit for many years and the only thing that I want to do to the Marlin is buff ( polish ) the bolt, it works fine but it would be smother if polished.

My marlin vs is a true tack driving, small game killing rifle. Im very happy with it and dont regret the purchase. However others feel the same about there savages, rugers,CZ, etc. For me, out of the 17 hmr guns its either the marlin or the savage.

I bought the Savage, scoped it, and gave it to my brother. (He's a mechanic and has always given a hand whenever I needed it.) Plus I'm getting ready to go back to Alaska and have a .22 Hornet - Ruger, a .223 Remington - CZ, and a .22LR Ruger 10/22. I really didn't need to take another small-bore.
To make a long story short.....we took the Savage to the range, with Hornady's, and that rifle shot 5 shot groups into a inch or less.....all morning long. You couldn't pry it from his fingers!
Good luck to you....either would be a great rifle I'm sure!

My only complaint about the marlin was that I had accuracy problems after about 30 rounds. I did a modified break in, w/ cleaning after 5 and 10 rounds. Next 25 good, last 5-10 the groups went to hell. I have heard this from others with rugars and CZ's and sounds like it may be an ammo problem, not the rifle.
