Default Bizarre gun issue

Hi everyone, I have a Remington 870 pump action 12 gauge. I was getting ready to take it out clay pigeon shooting tomorrow, when I noticed that there was a small problem. You see, when I pump the gun, it is showing a lot of resistance. I cleaned the gun. I checked for obstructions. There were no obstructions, but something is obstructing the pump action mechanism.

I traced it to the chamber. It looks like somethings been rubbing against the side of the guns interior. I can see where it’s been rubbing when the chamber is closed.

I don’t know if something is dented, or if there is another problem I cannot see. I will try to get pictures uploaded later, as I’m having problems right now.

Any idea what the problem could be? Again, I will get pictures uploaded as soon as I can.

Your bolt, the part with the rub marks is rubbing the inside of the receiver. Take the gun apart and look in with a flashlight to see if there may be a high spot or residue from firing the gun on the inside of the receiver. Clean the gun well inside the receiver and Lube the inside of the receiver and put a little lube on the bolt well and put it back together and see how it operates .

I agree with Oldtmr, only I will add when you remove the bolt, check the full inside of receiver for any place where grease might have built up or dirt or?? causing it to push the bolt up against the other side of receiver!

all bolts will get some wear and tear marks in that spot, but that seems a little more aggressive than it normally is,
but many of the bolts come in a chrome finish so many don't notice as much as when the Black coating wears as yours is!
when re installing things, maybe use dry lube over regular gun oil, if things maybe sit more than get shot , a good dry lube will still allow good lubrication , but won't a collect dust and dirt as fast! for you!

Thanks, guys. I found the problem. It turns out part of the bolt was slightly dented outward, causing it to rub against the receiver. I actually had to take the gun apart and take the bolt out. It was very slightly dented, but it was enough of a dent to make it rub.

I don’t know how the dent happened, but I was able to fix it. Gun is pumping just fine now.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
