Well I just looked out at Leupolds site and compared it to the VX-1 which is the same as the old Vari-xII and it actually weighs 1/2 ounce more ..+ the wide duplex_ but overall the dimensions are the same....Used A VAri-x II for a long time and never had a bit of trouble with it.. Priced the way it is they are aiming at Buckmaster Nikon scopes which transmit the same amount of light probably in the high 80' s ...I would rather have the Leupy than the Buckmaster.

There is a difference between the Leupold Rifleman and the VX-I' s. The Rifleman has magnesium flouride coatings on all lenses, while the VX-I' s now have Multicoat 4 on external lenses and magnesium flouride on internal lenses. The VX-I' s have a 86% light transmission and the Rifleman is 82%. Also, the VX-I' s have 1/4" MOA friction adjustments and the Rifleman has 1/2" MOA friction adjustments.

Hmmm seems like Iheard the VX-II has multicoat on Externals and 1/4" click and the VX-I had just magnesium flouride coatings... Nothing at the Leupold site that insinuates MC is on the VX I

what' s a 1/2" versus 1/4" friction adjustment?
I have an old vx-II with friction adjustment- the adjustment is actually infinite- there are no clicks or stops.

Oldelkhunter, below is a link just for you. It is a press release the Leupold has put out about the new VX-I and the multicoat 4 lens coating.

Also, with the different MOA for the friction adjustments, it is just that on the dials each mark represents 1/2" on the Rifleman and 1/4" on the VX-I.

I believe that the VX-I is a better scope than the Rifleman. Our prices have not changed. One added plus is the new VX-I' s are available in Matte finish now.
