are there any other gunmakers that have 7.8 million rifles sold? and have been known to make a payoff if there is a complaint? that's what Remington taught the gun industry, no matter what it costs for legal representation....pay it, if you offer to settle out of court its like stupidity welfare, do something stupid and it will pay off.

not sure if that number includes the 721, 722, 600, 660, 600 Mohawk, 78, 788 but they all had the walker trigger

just did some research and some math
according to what I can find on the net there are 9,331,500 Remington rifles with walker triggers in the hands of the public. so what would be the percentage of folks claiming misfires?
to put this in perspective the win. model 70 was introduced in I think 1934, total production is 1,918,985 so there are 20% of Winchesters in existence compared to remingtons....just so ya know

RR---I hope you know by now that I greatly respect your knowledge and expertise "on all things firearm" and I know by now that we're not going to agree on this. Yes, I know the Remington 700 line is the biggest selling bolt action rifle of all time. I have no idea what the % of folks are that have had misfires and nobody else does either because there is no place to report them other than the company and randomly out on the net. The company came up with their low % number by dividing the number of misfires reported to them by the total produced at that time. IMHO that really isn't much of a way to deal with a possible problem involving a firearm and not correcting it when the inventor is telling them it needs changing and they decide not to based on percentages! Yes, I know even if everyone reported them that the % would be low compared to total production, but the fact is that they are out there and there still appears to be a significant number going off when they shouldn't.

It's interesting that you brought up the Model 70, which is my "go to" rifle of my 3 30-06s. They may only represent 20% of the total volume of the Remingtons that have been produced, but I would like you to show me stats where there have been ANY issues with them. I don't believe you can because there has been nothing but praise for that rifle over the years and many feel it's the best rifle to ever be produced due to it's looks, the three position safety feature, as well as the controlled round feed of the pre 64s. Let's just move on and I wish a happy holiday season to you and yours!

Its about time. Remingtons quality has greatly decreased since "Freedom Group" took over. I pretty well wont buy a Remington Rifle anymore. Same way with Marlin, or "Remlin" now. Any Marlin post 2007 I wont touch. This may not be true, but Ive always heard that the man who came up with the original Model 700 plans knew that the misfire was gonna be a problem. He came to Remington with it, But they wouldnt spend the extra 10 cents to manufacture it properly...

I have always been Marlin loyal. but I wont buy a new one. Remington is becoming a joke in my opinion. Its sad, but its true.

I am interested in how you have determined this. Did you compare newer production rifles to older ones? What components do you find inferior in your comparison? How did you test them?

Anyone with a pulse that owns a firearm knows about the Marlin fiasco.Tha huge # of 700,s sold might be a lot higher than the competition, but how many of the many great f/arm manufacturers that do compete with Remmy have ever had discharge issues?Yep I thought so,none. That dirty trigger, screwin around with the trigger is a bunch of crap. The % of owners who mess with a trigger is below .000000000000000000001 percent.I guess also when they discharge when they were new was they got dirty by usin the rifle for a garden stake. Some of these posts are just plain nuts.
