Some insight to why a light barrel and heavy barrel can be equally accurate.

"All factors being equal" it was implied and then later clarified when bench rest guns were brought up.
The take away fom all this was:....if you ordered up a Remington 700 with either a fluted barrel or heavy barrel, the accuracy would be the same for the first 3-4 shots all things being equal like barrel bedding, trigger, crown, and ammo. Don't feel you have to lug a heavier barrel around the woods to get stellar accuracy from your hunting rifle.

That's all that was mention in the OP. Reread the original post and thats why I said first 4 shots.. I never once brought up bench rest guns into this discussion. I am not sure why anyone ever did???? We were talking about sportster hunting rifles with the same length but with different diameter barrlels.
The "all factors being equal" part is what everyone is trying to ignor to make their bench rest gun case. Bench rest guns are not equal to sportster rifles and have nothing to do with what JOC is saying. For some reason this very important point is elusive to some.

Were any of you on Bill Clinton's staff? I am starting to get the idea the definition of "is" might be in question soon.
JK. Further discussion of this might require that I buy every one a beer and discuss it in person. Too many variables with typing back and forth and simple expressions are being lost in translation. I could even bring JOC book.

well what do you expect considering, not once have you even attempted to answer any of the questions I posted trying to get you to prove that JOC was correct, instead of saying its in the book.

How am I to know Jack's method of study on the subject or if he is correct??? At this point I am willing to extend Jack O'Connor the benefit of the doubt he knows what he is talking about. I feel pretty confident knowing his reputation among other very well respected people like Roy Weatherby held him in high regards and were friends. How do you know a guy like Carol Shelby isn't full of antiquated ideas that might be wrong? At a certain point in a mans profession when they are at the pinical of their career and industry, you got to believe he knows more than you do. I am willing to take that leap of faith. I don't feel Jack O'Connor needs defended.

not talking about cars here, if you don't know his method, he never shared it, how can you believe it so strongly when so many other brilliant smiths have proven it wrong (IE John Noveske, Kirby Allen, Shawn Carlock, Kevin Kram, Jim See,) do I need to go on?

That's up to you to pick who your experts are. Its like debating philosophy or proving a negative. You have to pick a expert, read everything they have done first hand, investigate their credentials and basically make your own mind up if you choose to believe them. That's all I have done here is present JOC and his position on the topic. Ideas and different concepts frighten ALOT of people that think they got it all figured out. K certainly not saying you are one of them. Trust me I had a lot of time in school getting my Masters degree. I have read some crazy stuff and many topics I had to be willing to understand even though I personally didn't agree with them. Read some of Steven Hawkings books and ideas and there comes a point if you can follow his line of logic or not. There is no reason to take anything on this or any other forum personal. Its the Internet and barely credibal at that.

Leaning to relax and let things go will help you live longer, happier, and with less prostrate trouble.
