I think the 300 win mag has a edge on the 7mm mag but its not so much that I would sell one to get the other . I have owned three different 7mm mags ,but just never liked the bullet selection they had in those days ,Nosler at the time being the worst . With some of the newer bullet selection I think either one would be fine .

JMO, BUT I WOULD SAY 7MM REM MAG IS THE BEST DEER CARTRIGE OUT......PAUSE FOR THE FLACK TO FLY. BUT BACK TO YOUR QUESTION, IF THAT WERE THE CASE THEN I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HAS BEEN A SINGLE 06 SOLD IN THE LAST 30 YEARS IF THE 300 MAG IS THE END ALL. THERE ARE AS MANY DIFFERENT GUNS, CALIBERS, AND CARTRIGES AS THERE ARE PERSONALITIES. AND THEY ALL HAVE THEIR PLACE. BESIDES WHAT WOULD WE ALL HAVE TO ARGUE ABOUT.

Before I start I must tell you that I have both a 7 Rem Mag and a 300 Win Mag(among others). It depends on the bullet weights you want to shoot. For instance,I view my 7 Mag as a light bullet, long range deer rifle and shoot 140's in it. My 300 is used as a heavier bullet rifle for elk and moose and I shoot 200 gr Grand Slams in it.Will the 300 shoot 140's?,nope,but it will shoot 165's as fast and as flat as the 7 Mag shoots 140's but you'll pay with recoil. Will the 7 Mag shoot 200's at 2950 to 3000?,nope.See my point? And if 200's aren't enough I'll use the 338 Win Mag with 250's,job done.
