For the price, I would avoid Huskemaw's like the clap. They're a chop shop, terrible customer service, stole other makers designs, shoddy quality control. Great glass if you get a good one, God help you if you get a lemon, 'cuz they sure won't. Leupold and Nightforce have been around a long time, and they will continue to be, Huskemaw will not.

The Nightforce's are pricey, but in all fairness, he didn't get that 110BA for free, and those big .338LM pills don't come cheap either.

The NF BR scopes are a little more affordable, but don't have all of the bells and whistles as the NXS scopes. They only run 8-32x56mm and 12-42x56mm.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56mm ZS. Absolutely worth the money in my book. Buy a nightforce, and you will only cry once.

I'm also a big fan of the Leupold LRT VX-3's. The 6.5-20x50mm or the 8-32x50.

When you go shoping and you are looking at these high end scopes look at the Bushnell, I think you will be surprised.
Another vote for the Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50mm. For the price point, it's hard to buy a Bushnell over a Leupold, but for a high caliber hunting rifle with a lot of powder behind it, that range of magnification is tops. Pull in to 20yrds just as easily as zoom out to 1000yrds. Mine isn't mounted right now, but it lived on my .300WSM for a while, very versatile riflescope.

Yep, I have one on my 280, I absolutely love it. A very versatile scope, hard to beat for the money. Got a low enough bottom end for a hunting scope and on the top end has plenty of power for a target scope.

RidgeRunner, that's funny that you bring up the Edge. I've hunted with a .300 RUM since 2001, and am getting a custom Edge! Anyway I told Lloyd, my Lapua bud: "DO RESEARCH, get a Nightforce scope. Anyway, he's cheap but having fun, until my Edge is done.

My .340wby has a 3-12x on it, but it's set up for hunting. Similar cartridge/velocities though.

Leupold mark 4 etc.... may be a reasonable option.

or even that vx3 or vx6 with the B&C reticle which will get you out to 500 or 600yds.

NF are great scopes but I believe they take a back seat to US Optics and Schmidt & Bender.
We do not always work in urban areas. And yes, most urban sharpshooter shots are under 30yds. We can and do get deployed to different regions for various reasons. Best to have more than not enough. Especially when maybe dealing with barricaded incidents. I agree as well that Schmidt and Bender scopes are great scopes.

Have looked at and would like to have done such. But, we can not purchase from independant contractors like them. I checked into it.

And no, we didn't buy the NF's because they are the latest and greatest, they gave us great discounts for the agency purchased more than just what we bought and they use it as a promo for their product.

When we here 338 Lapua we automatically assume long range stuff. What kind of ranges are we talking here? Is he planning on using it the way it was designed or is it going to be a 100, 200, 300 yard gun? What kind of money is he willing to spend?

Well he looked into buying a Bushnell elite 6500 and they said he couldn't get one for a couple months, back ordered i guess. Anyway he bought some $200 dollar scope for his .338 Lapua. I wish he would've done research before he bought the gun and scope. The scope he bought is like a weak link in a chain. He said he'll get a better scope later.
