Another scope to concider that gives alot of bang for the buck is the Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x, you can get one for under $1000 and the optics are as good if not better than alot of these scopes mentioned earlier. When you go shoping and you are looking at these high end scopes look at the Bushnell, I think you will be surprised.
Another vote for the Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50mm. For the price point, it's hard to buy a Bushnell over a Leupold, but for a high caliber hunting rifle with a lot of powder behind it, that range of magnification is tops. Pull in to 20yrds just as easily as zoom out to 1000yrds. Mine isn't mounted right now, but it lived on my .300WSM for a while, very versatile riflescope.
