Nice case color on lever yet.. Has receiver been drilled & tapped for scope mounts? My 32nd Edition of Blue Book of Gun Values indicates it was made in 1941... Nice looking piece..

Serial numbers through 566,000, which ended the year 1950, are dated by the serial number (as the savage database and several of my book indicated). Serial numbers over 566,000 are dated by the Lever Boss Code...as your SN is lower than 566,000 it is dated correspondingly....as made in 1941...and the appearance of the rifle supports that.

Thank you very much!! Yes it has been drilled and tapped. There was a question before that asked i believe if it had a steel butt pad on it and it does have it. I always wanted one since i seen charlie bronson in death hunt. I really had not much knowledge of this gun otherwise when i bought it. I loved the feel of it and how comfortable it was. My uncle also bought 2 savage 99's off the same guy i bought mine from. If i can get some pics would you guys give me some info on his? I know one is a 300 sav. like mine but with a beefier stock and the other a .30-.30

I would be happy to help....would really love to see the 30-30 as you don't see many of those (it's one of the few calibers I do not have in a Model 99). The 300 Sav with the heavier stock is likely an RS model and a little more rare.

Ok boys here they are, The rifle with the Scope is the 30-30 sav. 99 The serial is 604836
The sav. 99 without the scope is a 300 sav. serial #110707 and the letter ( R ) near the front of the lever. Any info would be greatly appriciated. thank you

OK, I have a couple of questions...

On the 30-30, is there also a letter on the receiver by the lever (like there is on the 300 sav?)...based on the SN the 30-30 was built after 1951... I have never seen a 99 with both a straight lever and a pistol grip stock...very odd (oddly enough I couldn't find one online either, but I only did a quick search of google images). It's possible the stock is an after market stock...the lack of checkering has me curious as well as the combo of the pistol grip and straight lever...the stock just doesn't look right.

EDIT: THE 300 Sav. ........What exactly does it say on the barrel? How long is the barrel on the 300 Sav? Is there a brass counter on the left side of the rifle?

RR...there were many of the 99 A's and H's (and a few others I think) made with straight levers (400k and lower SN's I believe)...they are fairly rare (example: http://www.gunsinternational.com/Sav...n_id=100320496 )

I have a Savage take-down model in .300 Savage. The serial # is 310XXX identifying it as having been produced in 1928. As I said, it's a take-down, has straight grip, no checkering, curved schnabel tip. Has a Redfield peep drilled and tapped into the rear, left side of the receiver, a blank installed in the rear sight dovetail, and a long blade sight with bead installed in the integral ramp on the tip of the barrel.

Near as I can figure it is one of the following ... a model 99B or a model 99E.

One other thing, it has an "M" stamped on ther front of the receiver just above where the lever pivot-screw is installed. Reads "M" if looking at it straigght on upright, or "W" if holding the gun upside down.
