can't say on the other 2 but the ruger in 358 that I have is a decent gun. It's a SS in a plastic stock, but it's a pretty good
tuperware stock. I shoots decent, trigger could be lighter but with the lawyers today at least it breaks clean. The only thing bad I can say about it is that it will not feed 180 grain bullets, but 200's up they run slick as a piece of smooth plastic on bare ice.

I have always been a big fan of the Winchester and I would have to say that the model 70 is a very well made gun. The only problem I have had with them is every one I have handled was very unbalanced and I was not impressed with that. I myself am a Ruger man and will always lean more towards them as the quality is very good and the guns are very well balanced. I would say though I would take a Winchester or a Ruger in your case over a Rem. Never have been a big fan of Rem and their quality as of late is very poor for the cost. This is just my openion on the matter.

Remington or Savage. The .270 is a good choice.

.270 is definitly a good choice as it retains more knock down power 300 yards and beyond over the 30-06. Although I am very fond of 284 caliber rounds and really want a 7mm-08.

I've had all 3 and all were great. I'd go model 70 in either calibor.

Remington is my top pick. None of gunshops in my area have the new winchester to look at but if it's as nice as my 1971 M70 then it would be 2nd choice. The hawkeye's i've had the chance to play with 2 of them and i wouldn't take one if i won it. I spent 2 solid weeks reloading one in 338 federal and couldnt get any better than 2" groups. The other was in 30.06 and shot even worse.

While my Rugers have all been excellent rifles, after some tweaking, I have handled and shot the new Winchesters, and must say they would be a great choice.

................and so you see, a lot is personal preference !!!

"I wouldn't take one of those if you gave it to me............."

What "features" do you want your new gun to have (ie: wood or synthetic, etc.).

Then in the end, cross your fingers and hope you get a shooter !
