I have always been a big fan of the Winchester and I would have to say that the model 70 is a very well made gun. The only problem I have had with them is every one I have handled was very unbalanced and I was not impressed with that. I myself am a Ruger man and will always lean more towards them as the quality is very good and the guns are very well balanced. I would say though I would take a Winchester or a Ruger in your case over a Rem. Never have been a big fan of Rem and their quality as of late is very poor for the cost. This is just my openion on the matter.
