Default Custom Rifles and Wildcat Carteidges

I am a custom rifle builder in St. Albans Maine. I build rifles to fit the individual and specialise in this and accuracy. My custom rifles will shoot under 1" , more like 1/2" or less at 100 yards or they do not leave the shop. I am not trying to brag but all it takes is attention to detail. If you have questions about custom rifles or your own projects I would be very glad to help you out if I can. Post something, call at 207-938-3595 or Email at [email protected]

Just curious Jud, what kind of barrels do you prefer? Have you had better results with one particular brand? Thanks, Larry

I usually use Shilen Barrels or ones from The Montana Rifleman. Both these companies offer barrels that will shoot one hole groups with proper bedding and the correct loads. In general I have found that supporting the chamber area and leaving the rest of the barrel free floating works best.
Both of these companies offer pre threaded and chambered barrels for many actions, however these are chambered long so you need a lathe to head space them. If you do not have a lathe, look into the Shilen barrels offered by Brownells. These are Match grade and short chambered so all you need to head space them is a chamber finishing reamer. You can get reamers trhough Brownells or you can rent them from a place like White Rock Tool.

Thanks Jud, I have several rifles with Shilen barrels and all of them will shoot. I was just curious what kind you like. Doug Shilen is a nice guy to talk to too. He doesnt mind taking time to discuss any barrel related stuff, and those guys know alot about how to get a rifle to shoot little biddy groups. Of course these arent military secrets we' re talking about and alot of people can make a gun shoot. But the Shilen bunch is friendly and knowledgeable. Good luck.
