RE: Custom Rifles
I was wondering why more custom rifles are not built on the M77 MKII action. Any ideas?

RE: Custom Rifles
There's a lot of custom rifles built on Mauser actions too. As a matter of fact we're seeing several new manufactured actions available in Mauser copy.
Also the Montana 1999 (a M-70 copy) is quite popular to build on.
Remington actions are regarded as accuracy actions....great for varmint rifles and long range target rifles. M-70 and mauser actions are primarily used in hunting rifles and dangerous game rifles. The controlled round feeding is a major feature with these customers and the tradition is big too.
Most everyone that makes custom stocks makes them for Remington, Winchester, and Mauser and I suspect that is why Rugers are not more highly utilized.
Very few custom rifles are built on Savage actions as well.

RE: Custom Rifles
I have always used a 700 action but have changed my mind. I would really like a 3 lug design like on a browning but neiether mauser 98, 700 or 70 have that. Sakos 75's are so much heavier it seems.
but my next one will 70 action I think for a hunting gun. As far as the ruger, I am not sure why.

RE: Custom Rifles
There may be a couple of reasons for not making a custom out of a Ruger...
1. the Angled front screw and the 2 pc floorplate triggerguard assembly are probably more difficult to bed in a custom stock and no one to my knowledge makes a custom setup.
2.Because the action is cast and not machined it would take a lot of machine time and man hours to make the bottom of the reciever perfectly smooth.
But if you really wanted to have a beautiful M-77 custom from the factory just contact yourr dealer and order a custom deluxe...they are a thing of beauty...
