RE: Best semi-auto shotgun for $500?
I have a 1187 with 28 in barrel and it shoots great just a little heavy if walkin all day. I bought a Stoeger m2000 this turkey season and love it. It all depends on use. The stoeger is light and thus more recoil(with turkey loads it is way more noticible than Remington). Both are very solid guns. IMO the 1187 is better waterfowl and wingshooting gun because it swings great and easier for followup shots.

Keep a eye open for Winchesters, I have seen them go for that in my area (Around $500-$550)
Also, check out this site.Just go down to your local store and they will order for you, if you cannot find something around your area that is.

Stoeger 2000. It's the best value semi-auto shotgun on the market today. I love mine. It's fairly lightweight, patterns good, functions with total reliability, and as an added value, it comes with 5 choke tubes (Cyl, IC, Mod, Full and Extended XF Turkey), so you can hunt darn near anything right out of the box.
