Boar Hunter magazine always has an advertisement for this scope. I haven't tried it, but having 1-4 magnification means you can dial it down and use it like a red dot with no magnification and both eyes open or dial it up to 4x for longer shots. The reticle is illuminated for low light situations and can be turned on or off. The center dot is 1 moa so it can be used to make some pretty long shots as long as you're comfortable making them at 4x. This is going on my Marlin 336 in 30-30 for next hunting season.
