What's your deer rifle? It never hurts to get some off season practice...

All depends on how you are hunting. If you are sitting over a feeder, your deer rifle will work just fine. If you are baying with dogs... you need to be mobile.. and really a handgun (or a lance) are fine choices. If you are spot/stalking... I like a bow myself... but a shotgun is a great choice too.

Biggest one I ever killed was with a .22 Hornet... largely because its what was available at the time I needed it!

Hogs are tough but not armour plated. Your deer rifle will work just fine. Really any centerfire rifle will take one down if done right.

OEH, you like that new marlin? Thinking of getting one. I have an older one with a microgroove. Have you loaded for it yet?

The 35rem has worked flawlesly butI have just one data point! One 200lb hog at 30 yards one well placed 200gr corelokt and DRT it never moved (heart shot quartering away).

BC have not even gotten it to the range yet...I like the looks and feell of it . The trigger will have to be redone or replaced and I would just very slightly smooth up the action. Sitting in front of the TV and working the lever a few hundred times has worked wonders.;)I think it will be the designated NH,ME or VT moose gun(if i ever draw a tag)and short range woodsdeer crumpler since I like sitting in the thick stuff as well as pig and bear gun. I am probably going to hunt NC black bear next fall if the guy has any openings
