I'm shooting a rifle now that I pseudo inherited and its growing on me. Its an FN/Mauser rig in .30-06 and everyone keeps telling me its the best gun I'll ever own. I made noise about breaking down and buying myself a new rifle, something really nice like a Sako, perhaps and good friend of mine said there was no need. There certainly something to be said for selecting your own gun and customizing it how you see fit but now that I've taken a deer with this one.....
It belongs to my uncle who is a ward of the state-mentally ill. He and I talk about it occasionally. He misses hunting but is unable to to go. He wants me to replace the stock but I really don't see a problem with it. Apparently when he and my dad were kids, they got into a fight and my dad somehow damaged the stock and it had to be replaced. The replacement was at the time cheap and not to my uncle's liking but it seems to fit the rifle just fine to me.
I has a very old Redfield variable scope on it. I expect it was top of the line back then and is still serviceable. I have considered refitting it with some new optics but the cross hairs are clean and it works pretty well.
So anyhow...that's the one rifle I'm content with.
Unfortunatly, my house was robbed in Sept 08 and they got my favorite gun. It was a Remington 740 in .30-06 with a short barrel on it. It was very light weight, agile and semi-automatic. It was the perfect hog gun. It had a brass plate on the bottom of the forestock with my grandpa's initials engraved in it.
I drilled an 11pt buck we rattled up one day with it. Off hand, quick shot with him facing right at me through tall grass at about 120yds. Made a perfect shot and dropped him in his tracks. That was an amazing experience. At the time, my primary gun was a Reminton 700 in 7Mag (that was also stolen) and I love that gun too but it was pretty bulky so the 'Tiger' was perfect for stalk/rattle hunting.
I suppose I could go on, heh.

Remington 11-48 autoloader 12 gauge 2 3/4 in chamber, for one gun versatility the ol scatterguns hard to beat. This ones been in the hands of three generations of florida hunters and taken most of every critter the state has to offer.
