Default SLUG GUN QUESTION???

Ok guys Im thinking about giving my dad my 1100 slug gun and building a new one, but I have a few questions first. As far as barrels go what would you recommend for sabots?

Ive done some looking and they very a lot in length and twist rate. The Mossberg barrels Ive seen are 1 in 36" twist and 24", the hastings are 1 in 34"twist and 20-26", the remingtons are 1 in 28"twist, and the american slug barrels are 1 in 26"twist and 24".

What is your opinion on the difference in accuracy between an auto-loader and a pump? so what gun, barrel, and bullet combos are you shooting and what kinda accuracy are you achieving?

Im planning on using an 870 or 1100 with a holosight or some other type of electronic sight. Does anyone have any experience with other types of electronic sights

Im using a Mossberg 835 with a Mossberg barrel. IM not sure of the twist rate but im getting 1.5-2in groups at 100 yards with 3in Federal Barnes Expander slugs.

I believe the remington barrels are 1:35 unless they changed them for this year.

I think Browings are 1:28

Default RE: SLUG GUN QUESTION???

I have a Benelli Nova cantilever rifled barrel with a Bushnell Holosight. Absolutely love the holsosight for in the woods quick acquisition and moving deer. At the range, I easily bust clays at 100yds (just resting on the berm, not flying)
I also have an 870, hastings cantilever rifled barell with a Boyd's thumbhole stock and Bushnell multi-reticle holosight. Just started using it this year and it is becoming my new favorite combo. I may shift the holosight over to this gun though. My son has an 870 with rifled barrel and Bushnell Holosight on a saddle mount.

As far as twist rate and accuracy, once you find the right ammunition (trial and error), I think they are all going to be about the same, close enough anyway. At the range, all mine will print a sub 4" group at 100yds, so taking the deer in the field really comes down to being comfortable with the gun and the "sight". With the holosight, if I put the circle around the deer's shoulders and the dot in the middle, the slug will be in the kill zone. With the red-dot, I usually use the 6 MOA dot. Even at 100yds, the dot is only 6 inches in diameter. I can shoot with good confidence that the bullet (which is really what it is in a good sabot "slug"), will hit somewhere inside the circle. Where?...who cares?
