You're kidding yourself if you think they won't get into the weapons capabilities, if your in court. They will even get into the type of ammo you had loaded for self protection and it's ballistics. Bottom line for me is....In 48 years I've never needed a weapon to protect myself or anyone else, but if I ever do, I'm prepared and I will shoot to kill. I hope I'm never in that situation, but if I am, I will attack with all the fire power I have available and worry about courts later. If I ever pull a gun it will be out of fear for my life,my families life, or someone that is not able to protect themselves from a bad person. If someone was just stealing stuff, I could not shoot them for that, but If they were aggresive when I tried to stop them, and I feared for my safety, I'd smoke 'em!

first they asked why i wonted to take it
well first i said because i did not wont to leave it at home and i hd just bought it and planed to shoot it when i got down there.
They said that i could that is was legal in all the state down to Florida and since it was a long gun i did not need a permit.
That should have been the end of the conversation. If it is legal for you to transport and possess an AR-15 traveling through those states and into Florida, then it's legal.

But they also said that i could not use self defense as the reason for taking ti because if i used a ar15 to defend myself it would be condesend to much force and i could go to jail.
I have never heard of such an idiotic statement. One gun caliber or type of gun is "too much force" and another isn't??? That is utterly stupid. Any gun can potentially kill a person and shooting a person with any gun is considered a use of deadly force.

Is this true i have heard of alot of people owning a AR for defense and even seen the TV shows recommend it but if you can go to jail for using it why would any one have one
You don't go to jail for using one type of gun or caliber versus another. If you are justified in using deadly force (as in your life or another's is in imminent danger unless you use such force), it doesn't matter what caliber or gun you use. In such a situation, you should be shooting to stop the threat to your life or another's life. Once there is no longer a threat to your life or another's, you are no longer justified in continuing to use deadly force.

If you're still hesitant about taking your AR-15 to Florida, ask a local Florida cop or attorney to explain the gun laws concerning possessing and AR-15 and using it in a deadly force situation.

Gee. I guess based upon the concern they have about excessive force, if the only weapon I happen to have handy is my .375 H&H, I'd better let the perp shoot me. Got the name of that helpful government employee? My widow'sattorney will be calling on their agency.

So, here's the problem with many of today's government bureaucrats. They forget who they work for sometimes. It's not this person's job to become your hypothetical prosecutor and jury. It's this person's job to tell you whether or not it's legal to transport a firearm from one state to another. A "yes" or "no" wouldhavesufficed here.

Otherwise, there's a book out there I see advertised frequently in the RV community that lists the transport requirements for every state. Reading through my dad's copy, I found it very informative. I can try finding a link to it if you're interested?

I havea Fl concealed weapon permit and can say without a shadow of doubt the ATF is full of crap. The Fl castle doctrine was written very well and you could use any gun to killor injure the offenderand as long as you don't hurt anybody else your fine. The fact is most cops, especially federal cops know little to nothing about firearms, some don't even know their sidearms cal or who makes it.Alot have come down and shot aganst my guys and gals never to return from embarisment, some do know their business though. It appears to me that your reached a desk jockey who is intimidated by the looks of the gun rather than truecapibility or the law.
