My grandpa gave me a savage .270 to use for deer hunting about 6 years ago. Since then he has passed and word is the gun will probably end up being mine. But I've got some problems, I've noticed some scratches and dings on the stock of the gun recently[&:]im not a careless person and to be honest im not even sure how these got there. I feel pretty bad about it and i know my dad isn't happy about it either. Is there anything i can do to fix this without buying a new stock and if a new stock is my only option how much do these usually run?

My wooden stocks all have scratches and the blueing is worn off, I've carried them so long...Some are 30-35 years old...It gives a gun character, for the most part, I'd forget it....If you want to refinish during the off season then all I do is try to iron out the deeper dings, lightly sand the finish and rub the finish with linseed oil...If you aren't good with wood, most gunsmiths could refinish the stock for you....
