Okay i have a .22 now, its not new, but its new to me. its my dads old nylon 66, he just hasnt given it to me yet, and he might not. the popular vot wasa for semi auto, but i didnt phrase the question right, so ill try again. ill allow more than one choice, so pick an action, and then brand/model. i want an accurate hunting rifle, not a plainking rifle, a hunting rifle, preferably under $300 so that eliminates big brands. Also the .22 at walmart is a marlin model 60. i heard a lot of people say that its junk, and jams a lot is this true?

For an all around hunting rifle I would get a bolt action, Savage model MKIIJTV to be precise, you should be able to pick one up for around 325.00 to 350.00 max. It has a laminated thumbhole stock blued action and a heavy varmint barrel, clip magazine and accu-trigger. A very good looking, accurate rifle, one you would keep and pass down through generations, but thats just my oppinion!, I wouldnt rule out a .17 either!.

If it has the accutrigger, then yes. I recently bought a Savage Cub, which is a shortened single shot version of the MKII and am very impressed by it, though the action is a little tight.

My top choices would be a CZ or a Savage- in that order. If I had more $$s to spend, I'd buy a remington bolt or a Browning T-bolt.

Also look for used remington 581s- they sell for around $150-200 if you can find one. I used one of these for NRA rimfire silhouette- its a very accurate rifle and is lightweight as well. You might be able to find a used Rem 541 (a nicer rifle than the 581)for around $300, but those usually sell for closer to $600.

I have 2 marlin bolt action rimfires. One is a 917V in 17 HMR and the other is a 882 in 22 Mag. They are both accurate and in your price range. The 917V was 199.99 and the 882 was 249.98. I bought both of them new. Savage also makes accurate rimfires.

i really like the looks of the remington 581. i;ll check my local gun shop to see what they have.

My "first" choise would be Anschutz, as i like my 22's "accurate" and on the compact side for easy carrying... You didn't put a $$ amount on it, so why not get the "best" in the first place? It will easily last a lifetime, so why not get the best?

I bought a new Anschutz in the early 70's for just under $100.00 and it still shoots like new. It was a lot of money back then, but like i said, it will last me my whole life...

I have no idea how many thousands of rounds have been shot through it??? Nor do i have any idea how many pounds of meat it's put on my table over the years?? But it just keeps on, keeping on!

BTW, i bet you i could sell it for more than a hundred bucks any day of the week i wanted to!
