ORIGINAL: Maine Shooter

the .30-30 has taken more game than any other cartirdge I'd think. it's quite capable. the game haven't gotten any tougher the last 100 years.
.30-30 in the US & Mexico and the .303 in England, Canada andAfrica....

500 lb Black Bear. However the shot was from a tree stand at about 25 yards. RH is an old timer, I am but a kid.

My dad shot his black bear with a Marlin 30-30 when I was a kid. Killed it deader than a door nail about about 50 yards away. The 3 deer that I have shot with mine have all been 1 shot flops. The 30-30 hasnt gotten any less effective just because more streamlined and faster rounds have been developed. It is still a great low recoil hard hitting round out to about 150 yards. (Even farther with the LeverEvelution round).

Yep it will work just fine.

Are yall sure tho that the 30.30( older then 100 yrs old)has taken more game then theold 100 & 1yr old favorite-'30.06'?

A 30.06 is much more compariable to those brit 303.s- i think then a 30.30 is (it use to be a bp round)

The 30.06 seems to be ussally in the top 10 in hunting popularity & as a reloaded caliber threwout the yrs ( and used around the world at one time by many militarys)

That is a good question. It is easier to track on cartridge sales than it is kills with a cartridge. I am not sure if anyone is collecting that data.

I have heard of native americans and eskimos taking the big bears with the 30 30. Not my first choice, but they are probably pretty good at what they do. Ballistically, it is better than many pistol hunting cartridges, but it lacks the frontal area.
