Default drop dead bullets

what rifle bullets have been your favorite in regards to accuracy and knock down power. i have shot .308 hornady customs and they have performed well. i have also shot handloaded ballistic tips that just blew to pieces when they hit the deer. i am looking for a bullet that will be accurate and still deliver an all around nasty blow. i have shot the trophy bonded bear claw at targets and they group well. what do you guys shoot or recommend for a 30 caliber bullet for whitetail. i will appreciate any comments generated. thanks,

Jake8, one of the best kept secrets of bullet performance is Hornady's round nose bullets!!! In .308 cal the 180 grain round nose performs like a superstar....If I knew that I'd never want to shoot more than 200 yards at my deer.....all my 30 caliber rifles would have several boxes of them loaded and ready.....damn it's hard to stick a round nose bullet in a flat shooting gun!!!!!

Geez, if the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw groups well in your rifle, smile and laugh all the way to the meat processor. You won't find many better bullets when it comes to performance on game. <img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle>

I have used the NBT quit a bit taking deer and in all my experience I have never had one to blow up even at the short ranges here in the mtns.In fact I have taken a lot of deer with several different bullets and never had one to blow up even with making head shots.I haven't used the so called premium bullets because they are so expensive and I don't think the deer will ever know the difference.
When the SST came out I tried them and liked them, they are not that expensive, and found they worked really well.I don't have a 308 but do have a 30/06 and shoot the sst in 165 & 150 gr in it.If you reload you may want to try one of them,if the BT is blowing up.

i like the sierra gameking SPBT. 165gr. out of my 30-06sprg.groups well. hits hard. makes about 1&quot; hole in rib cage entrance and exit of rib cage was about 2&1/2&quot; but the deer ran 40yds before dying.blood everywhere.JMHO
for knockdown power. nothing beats a 12gauge slug at close range.

I'm with Quilly. 165 gr. Sierra Gamekings have performed well for me in my 308. As have the 150 gr. Core-lokts.

i like NBT and sierra gamekings in a 165gr HPBT...both do about the same..normal in hole...explode and make mush...and mushroom out and come out the size of a quarter or so...but thats out of a 3006 loaded to the max at under 50yds...i like devistating bullets and cant have my deer runn over 50yds because a guy we dont know usually sits about 250yds away and can see about 200yds and almost see us and our deer the one i had run 25yds he could see and probally had his scope on until he noticed a hole in it blood pouring out and it had 2 busted shoulders and barely made it 25yds...i duno how it did..it hit the snow like a tond of bricks and got up and ran with its back legs and drug its front legs about 25yds...ive never seen a bullet explode on impact exceot pistol bullets..my dad used NBTs and ive watched him take 3 deer at under 50yds and they all acted the same..and so did the deer...dropping where they stood..i like them...ive also heard terrible things aobut them...and i heard people saying they dont like them because they blow everything up and the same with hollow points..i love hollow points...they fly great and hit like a brick...
