Just put a new scope on my 17... One of those tactical type scopes with the adj turets... Anyhow was thinking that maybe I'd start at 25 yards and get it zeroed in there first and then set the target out a 100 yards for the fine tunning...
Would it be sort of the same thing as with the high powered rifles and start out a inch or two low at 25 yards???
Just looking for a start hear... Not trying to split atoms

I'd start at 25 and go to 50 or 75 before jumping up to 100 yards. Might save you when trying to get out to your desired zero. Watch the wind, I've never shot mine in any windy conditions. But I've heard even a little bit of wind will affect the 17HMR.

When I put a new scope on my .17 HMR, I sighted it in an inch hihgat 25 yards, then I moved back to 100, it was 6 inches high, that was with 17 grain Hornady V-Max, that was my experience, so go from there.

My intial sight in was with 20gr XTPs at 25 just shy (low) of bull = +3areaat 100 if i recall correctly(sorry been awhile and haven't shot at 25 since that day eitheron the range). Great little gun but as meantioned highly suspect of wind drift, as such I have gone to the 20 grs even though they give up trajectory and slightly larger groups they are more shootable here on the prairie's where wind is a staple!
Good luck
