I am going through this process right now and have the same uses in mind. I started looking at used Benelli SBE's for around $800 and then the used SBE II's for $1100-1200. But, right now I am looking at the Browning BPS NWTF. I have one on hold for $549 and Browning has a $75 rebate on all 3 1/2" guns until Nov 2007 (check their website), so my cost will be $475 before taxes (after the mail in rebate comes back). Most shops I checked had them for $599 andwere saying there will be a 5% increase once they are out and have to order more.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I found a friend who won a 870 express super mag at a NWTF baquet. He wants to get rid of it as he already has a turkey gun.
It sounds like most are of the opinion that the 870 is a good shotgun so I'll probably go ahead and take it off his hands.
