So, I guess that we are back to Savage in a landslide!

I find that very interesting to say the least. I have a very hard time believing that statement. I am a competition shooter (albeit a poor one). I am a garage shop gunsmith (even worse). I know a lot of gunsmiths and competition shooters. I would feel safe in saying that the vast majority of them would buy a Remington. Almost all (I think all) custom BR actions are based on the Remington 700, simply milled to much tighter tolerances.

Now,there is nodoubt that a very nice custom rifle can be built on a savage. Itsactuallyasimpler process than the Rem due to the barrel nut. ROSCOE is a professional gunsmith I wish he would chime in, I would like to hear his opinion on the fore mentioned statement.

If you want to build a custom rifle I say that the Rem. is far and away the better choice. No question about it in my eyes. Now, if we are arguing between factory rifle to factory rifle I wouldn't take a stand on either side of the fence. I own both and like each equally well. I like to buy Rem's simply because I can jerk the barrel off and make a custom out of the action if the notion hits me.

Or like shato davis said already have the off the shelf gun in the cabinet and custom it when the need or moment hits. I have done that with a few 700's, I like the flexibility if you have an action sitting idle(cheaper to work of its frame then buy the parts.)
